Websitewww.shaklee.comShaklee Corporation is a manufacturer and distributor of nutritional supplements, weight-management products, beauty products, and household products. The company is based in Pleasanton, California with operations in Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan and China. The company sells its products through a multi-level marketing network and claims a combined base of 750,000 “members” (customers) and distributors.[2]Contents  [hide]

[edit]History[edit]FoundingDr. Forest C. Shaklee created “Shaklee’s Vitalized Minerals” in 1915 before the concept of vitamins was fully understood. In 1956, Dr. Shaklee founded the Shaklee Corporation with his two sons to manufacturenutritional supplements.[3] Shaklee chose the relatively unknown multi-level marketing business model to market his product.[4] Starting in 1960, Dr. Shaklee began marketing organicbiodegradable cleaning products. He continually emphasized “natural” and “environmentally friendly” in his marketing messages, ideas which were not common at the time.

[edit]Expansion, divestiture, changes of ownership
Shaklee headquarters in Pleasanton

Shaklee Corporation was a publicly traded company in the late 1970s and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The corporation began to diversify in November 1986 when it purchased the Bear Creek Corporation, a direct marketing company best known for its Harry and David Fruit-of-the-Month Club operation, fromRJR Nabisco for $123 million.[5] In February 1989 Shaklee sold its 78 percent interest in Shaklee Japan to the Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Company for $350 million, while maintaining its licensing agreement and continuing to collect royalty payments from the Japanese operations.[6] Then in March 1989, Shaklee Corporation received an unsolicited acquisition proposal from a group led by Irwin L. Jacobs, the Minneapolis financier known also by his nickname “Irv the Liquidator”. Analysts placed the leveraged buyout value of Shaklee at $35 a share. The Jacobs group had been aggressively accumulating Shaklee shares, and disclosed it currently held a 14.98 percent stake in the San Francisco-based company. Shaklee immediately declared a special dividend of $20 a share, seen as a poison pill—a way to discourage takeover interest in Shaklee, though the company disputed that view. Shaklee’s anti-takeover provisions come into play when an investor reaches 15 percent.[7] After a few tense weeks, during which time Jacobs increased his stake in Shaklee,[8] Shaklee Corporation announced it was being acquired by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical for $28 a share in cash, or about $395 million. Yamanouchi’s partnership with Shaklee in Japan helped make the transaction possible, and cast Yamanouchi as a“white knight” in helping Shaklee fend off the hostile takeover bid by Jacobs.[9] Jacobs announced he would not challenge the Yamanouchi bid[10] and the deal with Yamanouchi was quickly finalized.[11]Shaklee became a privately held company.

In April 2004, Yamanouchi sold Shaklee Corporation to American billionaire Roger Barnett, managing partner of Activated Holdings LLC, for $310 million. Bear Creek and the Harry and David line was sold toWasserstein Perella & Co. for $260 million.[12][13]

Shaklee is committed to being green.[14][15]

[edit]ReceptionShaklee’s Scientifically Advanced Vita-Lea Iron Formula multivitamin was tested by ConsumerLab.com in their Multivitamin and Multimineral Supplements Review of 38 of the leading multivitamin/multimineral products sold in the U.S. and Canada. The multivitamin passed ConsumerLab’s test,[16] which included testing of selected index elements, their ability to disintegrate in solution per United States Pharmacopeiaguidelines, lead contamination threshold set in California Proposition 65, and meeting U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling requirements.[17]

A landmark nutrition study [18] compared users of Shaklee vitamins and supplements with users of leading multivitamins and people who took no vitamins or supplements over a 20 year period. The authors found a statically significant reduced risk of diabetes in Shaklee vitamin users, according to the self-reports of medical history by those users. They also find more favorable concentrations of chronic disease-related biomarkers such as HDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood of long-term Shaklee vitamin users, as well as a lower risk of elevated blood pressure, compared to the control groups. However, as the authors note, the Shaklee vitamin users were generally of a higher socio-economic status than the non-useres. Better access to health care as well as a healthier life style among the members of the Shaklee vitamin user group may account for some or all of the differences between the groups.

[edit]Cycling teamFrom 1988-2000 Shaklee was the title sponsor of an American based UCI professional cycling team managed by Frank Scioscia. In its final year of existence (2000) Team Shaklee was the top-ranked UCI tier III team in the world[19] and included United States Olympic Team members Jamie Carney, Jonas Carney, Adam Laurent, and Kent Bostick. There is no information listed as to whether or not the team members actually used Shaklee products.

[edit]Customers[edit]NASABeginning in 1993, Shaklee started providing NASA with a customized rehydration beverage for use by Shuttle astronauts[20][citation needed]

[edit]Olympic athletesSome of the athletes that use Shaklee products are: Craig Blanchette, Laurie Brandt, Kent Bostick, Eli Bremer, Sandra Gal, Bill Demong, Kris Freeman, Zach Krych, Adam Moore, Reilley Rankin, Jennifer Rodriguez, Carl Rundell, Roz Savage, Darin Shapiro, and Ashley Wagner.[21]

What are the most popular / Best Selling Shaklee products

We love them all, and you can see the full product line by clicking below.

(Shaklee Product Line) or our (Digital Catalog)
Our favorites are very similar to some of Shaklee’s
most loved products:

1. Vivix®.

Picture

Shaklee calls it “a revolutionary breakthrough in the fight against cellular aging.” The ingredients in Vivix have been shown in laboratory studies to positively impact the four key mechanisms of cellular aging. In fact, a 30-day supply delivers the equivalent amount of resveratrol found in 3,000 glasses of red wine, and laboratory studies found Vivix to be 10x more powerful in slowing a key mechanism of aging than resveratrol. It’s really good stuff!*

2. Shaklee Vitalizer™.

Picture

This is my foundation. In one daily packet I get foundational nutrients I need, including sustained release B and C vitamins, minerals and more, plus probiotics, Omega-3s and more. If you’re like 9 out of 10 Americans, you don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, and that means you may not be getting enough of the right nutrients. That’s a great reason to supplement what you eat and I really like the way Vitalizer makes me feel!

3. Cinch® Vanilla Shake Mix: Soy or Cinch® Vanilla Shake Mix: Whey.

Picture

I love these shakes for so many reasons. They are rich in protein, I can mix in strawberries, bananas, peaches, whatever and it always tastes great. That’s my routine…blender, milk, fruit, cinch shake powder. It’s so good. I feel full and stay feeling full throughout the morning. They’re great for people watching what they eat. Both feature an ingredient called Leucine which helps retain muscle.

4. Basic-H2® Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate.

Picture

I love this because I can use it in so many different ways around the house. I clean my whole house with it. One bottle goes a long, long way. A 16 oz bottle creates an unbelievable 48 gallons of super-safe, really powerful, all purpose cleaner. It replaces so many household cleaners I used to buy at the grocery store. It’s concentrated, so it saves me a lot of money compared to ready-to-use cleaners. It’s nontoxic, too!

5. NutriFeron®.

Picture

NutriFeron is “a clinically supported blend of immune-strengthening plant extracts.” I simply call it an immune system booster. It’s in my top 5 because so many of my friends and family use it. I feel like it boosts my immune system defenses and helps increase my resistance wherever my paths take me.*

6. Nutrition Therapy Skin Care System™.

Picture

This is a great skin care system, for women and men. The exclusive to this is “Vital Repair+® which blocks ALL those skin-damaging free radical reactions and actually allows the skin to keep making healthy cells.” For me, I like it because it leaves my skin looking smooth and feeling incredible.

7. Nature Bright® Laundry Booster and Stain Remover.

Picture

This stuff is like gold in my laundry room. I use it on grass stains, dirt, even stains on upholstery in the car or home. You name it. It cleans with “natural enzymes and active oxygen” so it seems to keep my clothes bright without fading, but still clean.

8. Fresh Laundry Concentrate (Powder).

Picture

If awards were given out for the amount of wash that is done in homes, our home could qualify to be a winner. I really like Fresh Laundry Concentrate Powder. The fragranced version smells great, it cleans very well. It cleans with natural enzymes and biodegradable surfactants, and is very safe in water systems. I love that it is concentrated too. With just a ¼ cup, you can clean a whole load.

9. Cinch® Snack Bars.

Picture

When I get those cravings for a snack, I really like having Cinch Snack Bars around! Each bar has 10 grams of protein and only 120 or 130 calories—I like that, a lot. When I look at some other bars on the market, they often don’t even have 3 grams of protein and they’re full of sugar. Like the shakes and meal bars, these Cinch snack bars also have Leucine, which helps preserve muscle. And, they taste great!

10. Cinch® Energy Tea Mix.

Picture

For me, Cinch teas are a safe, natural energy boost and a great alternative to sugary snacks, coffee and soda. You can drink it hot or cold. It comes in little single serve sticks so you can just add it to a water bottle; they’re very portable and packable. One of my favorite parts – it’s not too tart and not too sweet. It’s just right!

Eat more often and loose weight. November 25, 2012

Picture

How often do you eat each day?

The usual answer is 2-3 times each day. Most of us are fooled into thinking that in order to lose weight we should eat as little as possible, this is simply not true.

The problem with going for an extended period without eating is simple: your body thinks you are starving. As a result your metabolism slows to conserve energy and when you do eat the food will be put into storage – also known as fat.

Want to lose fat? Eat 4 to 6 small meals a day to easily kick your metabolism into high gear.

Eating smaller meals throughout the day forces your body to burn calories all day long and the results are amazing. When you begin to eat in a “grazing” fashion your body will respond by dropping unwanted pounds.

This is probably not the first time that you have heard this tip – but, if you are like most unsatisfied fitness enthusiasts, then you simply don’t do it. Why not? As far as weight 1oss tips go, this is about as easy at they get…so why the resistance? Here are the top 3 excuses:

I don’t have the time:

We all know that, no matter how stressful or demanding your job is, you can still find 5 minutes every few hours for a snack. The issue here is not that you don’t have the time – it is that you just aren’t making it. Sure, old habits are hard to break and maybe you have a set time that you like to eat everyday. That is fine – don’t change the usual mealtimes, just add a couple of snacks throughout the day to keep from going hours on end without food, and then eat a little less at your regularly scheduled meals.

I tried it and it didn’t work:

I simply don’t believe it. There is no way that you really tried it and it didn’t work. The formula is simple: small meals every 4-6 hours. Emphasis on the word small. These aren’t four course meals…If this is your story then read on for a sure-fire plan to make this tip work for you.

I forget to eat:

When you first start eating 4-6 small meals instead of 2-3 there will be a bit of an adjustment time. If your body is used to going for hours on end without food, then you may not feel hungry when it is time for your next small meal. The key here is to be as organized as possible. Think ahead and pack small meals so that they are ready to go. With a little effort you will be eating every few hours like clockwork.

Your Fool-Proof Plan:

Eat small nutritious meals every 3 hours throughout the day, eat your first within 30 minutes of waking.
Make sure that each meal contains quality protein, complex carbohydrates, mono-unsaturated fats and fiber.
Your goal is to eat more often, not more calories each day.
Keep a food log – write down what you eat when you eat it and take time to review your progress.
What should you eat? Whole grains, fresh fruits, lean protein and veggies.

I encourage you to use this powerful weight 1oss strategy in your own quest for a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Last but not least, Look at a program like the Shaklee 180 program to help you along the way with Healthy lean snacks and meal replacements that really Satisfy your cravings.

Do you eat to much? The Answer is Likely Yes… November 21, 2012

Don’t be a Victim of Portion Distortion

It’s no secret that people are larger today than ever before. Waistlines have expanded over the last twenty years and studies show that portion sizes have grown as well.

Researchers from New York University found that average portion sizes started to grow in the 1970’s, rising quickly in the 1980’s – and this phenomenon hasn’t shown signs of slowing. A “large” order of fries from McDonalds’ weighs the same as 1998’s “Supersize” fries. And it doesn’t stop there. Check out these eye-opening figures, provided by the National Institutes of Health:

Today’s 6-inch bagel has 350 calories. This is 210 more calories than a 3-inch bagel 20 years ago.

Today’s 5 ounce muffin has 500 calories. This is 310 calories more than muffin 20 years ago.

Today, a large cookie has about 275 calories. This is 220 more calories more than a cookie 20 years ago.

Today, a 3 cup chicken Caesar salad has 790 calories. This is 400 more calories more than Caesar salads 20 years ago.
Keep in mind that the health experts all agree on one thing: Obesity is on the rise because people eat too many calories and do not exercise enough. Portion control is a very important factor for losing-weight, but to attain a fit and healthy physique exercise is also a must.

Now that you know portion sizes today are far larger than you really need, what are you going to do the next time you go out to eat?

Try the following 3 tips and watch as your waist begins to slim and your confidence soars.

Trim-Down Tip #1: Re-program Your Mind
I’m sure your mother did a great job when she taught you to “clean your plate.” The problem now lies in the fact that your plate is usually loaded with more than 3 times the calories that you really need. So what’s the solution?

Realize that it is O.K. to leave food on your plate. Eating everything on the plate is probably a habit now, but it is one that you can break. Focus on how you feel halfway through your meal. Are you full? If you are beginning to feel full then stop eating. Don’t worry – your mom won’t send you to your room!

Trim-Down Tip #2: Slow Down
I know that this is a tough one – so bear with me. These days we are in such a hurry, we rush to work, rush to lunch, rush through errands and then rush home. So it is no wonder that food consumption is no exception. Most meals are devoured before your stomach has the chance to let you know that it is full.

Eat your next meal slower than usual. Chew each bite thoroughly, engage in conversation and pay attention for signs that you may be getting full. Once you realize that you are full, stop eating. Congratulations – you just tailored your portion down to its proper size.

Trim-Down Tip #3: Go Halfsies
I understand that it may be very difficult for you to leave food on your plate, even though your mother isn’t looking over your shoulder, and even if you eat slowly. No problem – you just need to do some strategic planning. The next time you go out to eat do one of the following two options.

1) Share an entrée with a friend and order salad or soup to start your meal. This will cut your calories down dramatically, while still giving you the satisfaction of clearing your plate.

2) If sharing isn’t an option then ask your waiter to bring a to-go box along with your order. As soon as the food is placed in front of you put half of it into the to-go box. You are now left with a reasonable portion and even have your next meal taken care of.

And our last tip is to get on a great Soy based diet program Like the ones offered by Shaklee.

Nutrition Label Facts | Improve your health today!

Picture

Eat smart with these 8 pointers:

If you are like most people then you probably glance at the Nutrition Facts label on foods once in a while. Maybe you check for the number of calories or fat grams that an item contains, or maybe you are watching something specific – like your sodium intake.

Whatever the case, it has been proven that those who pay attention to the Nutrition Facts label end up eating healthier.

The more familiar you are with the Nutritional Facts label, the more likely you will be fit and healthy.

Each Nutritional Facts label has been designed to quickly and efficiently give you all of the important facts about a food item. You just need to know what you are looking for. Read on as we break down the Nutritional Facts label into 7 important facts.

Fact #1: Serving Size:

This small detail skews the entire label if you don’t read it closely. An item may seem like it is only one serving, but the Nutritional Facts label will consider it to be 2 or 3 servings. If the label says 100 calories, but there are actually 3 servings, then you are getting a total of 300 calories. Pay close attention to what makes a serving.

Fact #2: Percent of Daily Value:

The Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000-calorie diet for healthy adults. Even if your diet is higher or lower in calories, you can still use the Percent Daily Value as a guide. For example, the Percent Daily Value can help you determine whether a food is high or low in specific nutrients:

  • If a food has 5 percent or less of a nutrient, it’s considered to be low in that nutrient.
  • If it has 20 percent or more, it’s considered to be high in that nutrient.

Fact #3: Calories:

Most people don’t have the time to count every calorie that they put in their mouth – this is understandable. However, you probably have a pretty good idea about the amount of food that you eat each day. When you approach a new item, read the calorie totals on the Nutritional Facts label, and factor the new calories into your daily intake. Steer clear of high calorie items – especially in the form of snack foods.

Fact #4: Total Fat:

By now you have undoubtedly heard that all fats were not created equal. Here is a quick 1-2-3 breakdown.

Limit your intake of Saturated Fats – this deadly fat contributes to heart disease.
Avoid Trans Fats at all costs – not only does it contribute to heart disease, it also raises LDL cholesterol (the bad one).
Focus on eating monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats – these don’t raise LDL cholesterol and can even help lower blood cholesterol.
As you decide what food to include in your diet, keep your eye on the type and amount of fat included in each item. Remember, all fats were not created equal.

Fact #5: Total Sodium:
Sodium free or no sodium Less than 5 milligrams of sodium and no sodium chloride in ingredients
Very low sodium 35 milligrams or less of sodium
Low sodium 140 milligrams or less of sodium
Reduced or less sodium At least 25 percent less sodium than the regular product

Fact #6: Total Carbohydrates:

Though zero carb diets are losing their momentum, you may have been influenced by the idea that all carbohydrates will make you fat. That is simply not true. It is true, however that some carbohydrates are healthier than others. In fact, medical experts think that excess consumption of refined carbohydrates (such as soda pop, white rice, and white flour) are one of the reasons behind the rise of obesity we see today.

Choose fibrous, complex carbohydrates over sugary, simple carbohydrates.

Fact #7: Protein:

The fact stands that most of us are getting plenty of protein in our diet. The problem arises when we examine the source of this protein. Meats and dairy products that are high full of fat may be filled with protein, but they aren’t the healthiest form of protein. Choose protein from lean meats, dry beans, poultry, and low fat/fat free dairy products.

Fact 8: The Good Stuff (Vitamins & Minerals):

Directly beneath the protein count on the Nutritional Facts label you will see the percent daily value of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron that the food item contains. These numbers are easily overlooked, but hold great importance to your overall health. The more nutrient-rich food items provide you with the greatest benefit per calorie. Compare food brands and choose the most nutrient-rich option.

Now it’s time to evaluate your lifestyle!

Now that you understand the Nutritional Facts label on your food, you may still have questions about how to change your fitness level.
