Websitewww.shaklee.comShaklee Corporation is a manufacturer and distributor of nutritional supplements, weight-management products, beauty products, and household products. The company is based in Pleasanton, California with operations in Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan and China. The company sells its products through a multi-level marketing network and claims a combined base of 750,000 “members” (customers) and distributors.[2]Contents  [hide]

[edit]History[edit]FoundingDr. Forest C. Shaklee created “Shaklee’s Vitalized Minerals” in 1915 before the concept of vitamins was fully understood. In 1956, Dr. Shaklee founded the Shaklee Corporation with his two sons to manufacturenutritional supplements.[3] Shaklee chose the relatively unknown multi-level marketing business model to market his product.[4] Starting in 1960, Dr. Shaklee began marketing organicbiodegradable cleaning products. He continually emphasized “natural” and “environmentally friendly” in his marketing messages, ideas which were not common at the time.

[edit]Expansion, divestiture, changes of ownership
Shaklee headquarters in Pleasanton

Shaklee Corporation was a publicly traded company in the late 1970s and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The corporation began to diversify in November 1986 when it purchased the Bear Creek Corporation, a direct marketing company best known for its Harry and David Fruit-of-the-Month Club operation, fromRJR Nabisco for $123 million.[5] In February 1989 Shaklee sold its 78 percent interest in Shaklee Japan to the Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Company for $350 million, while maintaining its licensing agreement and continuing to collect royalty payments from the Japanese operations.[6] Then in March 1989, Shaklee Corporation received an unsolicited acquisition proposal from a group led by Irwin L. Jacobs, the Minneapolis financier known also by his nickname “Irv the Liquidator”. Analysts placed the leveraged buyout value of Shaklee at $35 a share. The Jacobs group had been aggressively accumulating Shaklee shares, and disclosed it currently held a 14.98 percent stake in the San Francisco-based company. Shaklee immediately declared a special dividend of $20 a share, seen as a poison pill—a way to discourage takeover interest in Shaklee, though the company disputed that view. Shaklee’s anti-takeover provisions come into play when an investor reaches 15 percent.[7] After a few tense weeks, during which time Jacobs increased his stake in Shaklee,[8] Shaklee Corporation announced it was being acquired by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical for $28 a share in cash, or about $395 million. Yamanouchi’s partnership with Shaklee in Japan helped make the transaction possible, and cast Yamanouchi as a“white knight” in helping Shaklee fend off the hostile takeover bid by Jacobs.[9] Jacobs announced he would not challenge the Yamanouchi bid[10] and the deal with Yamanouchi was quickly finalized.[11]Shaklee became a privately held company.

In April 2004, Yamanouchi sold Shaklee Corporation to American billionaire Roger Barnett, managing partner of Activated Holdings LLC, for $310 million. Bear Creek and the Harry and David line was sold toWasserstein Perella & Co. for $260 million.[12][13]

Shaklee is committed to being green.[14][15]

[edit]ReceptionShaklee’s Scientifically Advanced Vita-Lea Iron Formula multivitamin was tested by ConsumerLab.com in their Multivitamin and Multimineral Supplements Review of 38 of the leading multivitamin/multimineral products sold in the U.S. and Canada. The multivitamin passed ConsumerLab’s test,[16] which included testing of selected index elements, their ability to disintegrate in solution per United States Pharmacopeiaguidelines, lead contamination threshold set in California Proposition 65, and meeting U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling requirements.[17]

A landmark nutrition study [18] compared users of Shaklee vitamins and supplements with users of leading multivitamins and people who took no vitamins or supplements over a 20 year period. The authors found a statically significant reduced risk of diabetes in Shaklee vitamin users, according to the self-reports of medical history by those users. They also find more favorable concentrations of chronic disease-related biomarkers such as HDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood of long-term Shaklee vitamin users, as well as a lower risk of elevated blood pressure, compared to the control groups. However, as the authors note, the Shaklee vitamin users were generally of a higher socio-economic status than the non-useres. Better access to health care as well as a healthier life style among the members of the Shaklee vitamin user group may account for some or all of the differences between the groups.

[edit]Cycling teamFrom 1988-2000 Shaklee was the title sponsor of an American based UCI professional cycling team managed by Frank Scioscia. In its final year of existence (2000) Team Shaklee was the top-ranked UCI tier III team in the world[19] and included United States Olympic Team members Jamie Carney, Jonas Carney, Adam Laurent, and Kent Bostick. There is no information listed as to whether or not the team members actually used Shaklee products.

[edit]Customers[edit]NASABeginning in 1993, Shaklee started providing NASA with a customized rehydration beverage for use by Shuttle astronauts[20][citation needed]

[edit]Olympic athletesSome of the athletes that use Shaklee products are: Craig Blanchette, Laurie Brandt, Kent Bostick, Eli Bremer, Sandra Gal, Bill Demong, Kris Freeman, Zach Krych, Adam Moore, Reilley Rankin, Jennifer Rodriguez, Carl Rundell, Roz Savage, Darin Shapiro, and Ashley Wagner.[21]

Shaklee Complaints | Shaklee Scam November 20, 2012

Picture

Shaklee Complaints | Shaklee Scam:

Shaklee is the oldest brand in the natural nutrition / natural health industry, they coined the term “Social Marketing” and invented the first multivitamin. Shaklee corporation has been around for over 55 years and literally is a bedrock of integrity and stability in the often changing marketplace of network / social marketing companies.  What are some of the biggest  Shaklee complaints out there and are they founded?

Shaklee has an excellent reputation in the business community, having a A+ rating from the BBB, or better business bureau.

They also have a solid reputation as a leader in the environmental field, having been the first large corporation getting a third party verification of being climate neutral.

However, what about the Shaklee Complaints out there?

One of the biggest controversies, as far as a business builder goes, particularly in today’s day and age is their internet policy towards advertising Shaklee if you already belong to that company..

As is common with many older network marketing companies, they, on the surface appear to be very controlling of their brand name on the internet.  After all, if a company does not have a brand name, what do they have?

However, brand name control is a very tricky thing on the internet, Shaklee being no exception.  Often times what works best is for companies to, rather try to restrict the conversation, which breeds mistrust on an open internet platform, to engage in the conversation and their customers and distributors.

In fact, apparently there was a big point of interest a few years ago when Oprah appeared to endorse the products on her show as “one of her favorite things”.  What happened was that there was a complete ban from the company towards its distributors from using her name in connection with the products.

But, it should be noted that several very prominent Shaklee Independent distributors have built very large businesses using the internet.  They built their organizations in various ways, such as pay per click marketing and using recruiting systems or funded proposals.

Really, from what you can read online, it appears that you simply need to indicate that you are a Shaklee independent distributor in order to use the name of their products or corporate name so as to separate what you are saying with their corporate identity.

So, what is the summary here for Shaklee complaints, particularly surrounding their use of the internet for its distributors?
Just a company trying to protects its brand an image.

Read below for thoughts on Shaklee as a Scam.

Shaklee Scam – Shaklee Reviews

The fifty five year old company often gets the common question asked,
“is Shaklee a scam?”
No matter how powerful the hype echoes, or how great people say the product or business is, its in your best interest to always do your du-diligence.

Here I will reveal whether or not this company is legit or something we can just throw in the closet for another rainy day.

Shaklee is based out of Pleasanton, CA they manufacture assorted lines of products for health, wellness, weight loss and non toxic cleaning. They have high quality vitamins and supplements, cellular anti-aging, all-natural fat loss, skin care, and biodegradable cleaning concentrates.

They were also ranked as the #1 all-natural nutrition company in the United States when tracking sales volume.
They were the 1st company to be certified as
“Climate Neutral”
(which means that they offset their CO2 emissions with zero net impact on the earths atmosphere).

Shaklee has proven to many around the world that you can make money in large amounts
while providing a positive climate effective product.

Shaklee’s Historical factors

The company was founded in nineteen fifty six by Dr. Forrest Shaklee.
He spent more than forty years developing powerful vitamins and minerals that promote well being and a healthy lifestyle.

With the high grade of products they manufactured,
they integrated a powerful business model to spread the word of the Shaklee name.
(Social Marketing)

In 2004 Shaklee was purchased and taken over by billionaire investor, Roger Barnett who gave the business a complete paradigm shift into popular fame.
They were featured on popular shows like “The Rachel Ray Show” and on “Oprahs” favorites things. So now that you have a clean and pure outlook on where Shaklee has survived and flourished, let take a further look into the question..

Does this company have A history of scamming shaklee distributors or customers?

Most times when you come across people yelling the SCAM word, you  find out these people were past distributors themselves whom had zero training or the skillsets required to generate leads or traffic to their affiliate websites.

A little research shows that the company has  a BBB A+ rating.

Here are a couple notable accomplishments you can credit Shaklee for:

  • Shaklee has been in business for more than 55 years.
  • They provide a actual, tangible items and is even the official nutrition sponsor with the US Olympic Ski Team.
  • Shaklee goods are employed by NASA and have even been endorsed by individuals like Rachael Ray and Oprah
  • First company to be certified as 100% climate neutral.

They’re also shared across 8 nations all over the globe and have spent more than $250 Million on research and development of the products.

Shaklee Scam?
 “Absolutely Not!”

I have come to the conclusion you can make money with shaklee, BUT! To become an effective Shaklee distributor,
you must hone the skills of the internet in communication with people and you must be able to openly and enthusiastically share your Shaklee story and experience with everyone you meet.

In the interest of Full Disclosure – HomeBizCentral.org and GuideToGreen.com which we represent are very satisfied Shaklee Independent distributors operating online, in the US and Globally distributing Shaklee products.
We operate as a team of independent distributors working together.

Shaklee, Doing what’s right! November 17, 2012

Picture

Why Shaklee?

There are a plethora of reasons to choose Shaklee over other nutrition company’s for your health, wellness or business partner.  The reasons range from Shaklee’s ground breaking natural products that have been rigorously tested to be safe and proven effective, to the companies guiding principle of following the laws of nature and commitment to be a green company. (Shaklee was the First company to be certified as Carbon Neutral.) Or possible Shaklee’s ground breaking scientific breakthroughs of developing the first Multivitamin or developing the best anti aging product in the world. (Vivix).

Shaklee is the Number One natural nutrition company in the US and one of the best Social marketing companies too! many people have improved their health, wellness and wealth by using and working with Shaklee.  Below is a recent Forbes interview with our incredible CEO Roger Barnett.  Take a look and see what you think.

Picture

The Right Thing to Do:

Roger Barnett is CEO of Shaklee, a nutrition and personal care products company founded in 1956 on the principle, “follow the laws of nature and you’ll never go wrong.” Shaklee was one of the first companies to remove water-polluting phosphates from its cleaning products and became the first carbon neutral certified company in the world in 2000. Barnett spoke to Momentum and Terry Waghorn of Forbes recently about Shaklee’s role as a sustainability innovator.

Q: You have said you want Shaklee to be the first corporation to win a Nobel Peace Prize – for eradicating child malnutrition. Tell us about that.

My goal is for Shaklee to be the first company to solely win the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2004 Wangari Maathai won it for the Green Belt movement, which paid people 8 cents per tree to plant trees and as a result planted 30 million trees and helped people take control of their lives using financial incentives to improve the environment. In 2006 Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank won it for microloans, which help create sustainability. Without income or sustainability you can’t have the basis for peace. The third layer is health. From my perspective, because Shaklee is about health and also provides income opportunities to people at scale―in the millions―and also is about sustainability products, that would be the natural next step, to look at someone contributing to health and income and sustainability at the same time.

Q: Health is the foundation of Shaklee. Preventable chronic disease is at an all-time high in North America, yet science is better than ever. What factors are causing this scenario?

I think there is a growing awareness for prevention to be a salvational principle for our health care system here in North America and around the rest of the world. Economic pressures are going to force that as health care costs continue to escalate and if left unchanged will become too great a burden on our country. So the bottom line will drive a very positive outcome―a focus on lifestyle and nutrition that will allow people to live more active, productive lives for longer. And it is my great hope that Shaklee can help be an agent of change by sharing and educating people about prevention.

Q: Why did Shaklee choose to become carbon neutral?

Shaklee was founded on the principle of living in harmony with nature in 1956. Each and every decade the company has tried to make that founding principle real, tangible and relevant. So in the ’60s we were the first to take phosphates out of laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. Then we pioneered the idea of superconcentration―as a result, in just the past few years, we’ve saved enough plastic bottles that if you laid them end to end they would go around the Earth more than 29 times. In the ’80s we sponsored expeditions to the North Pole to measure the impact of climate change. In the ’90s we planted a million trees. In 2000 we wanted to show leadership for this decade, so we became the first company in the world to be Climate Neutral certified so as to leave no footprint on this planet. In order to do that we had to first help create a certification organization, then measure and quantify our carbon emissions. Then we went to local cities and created our own offset projects. We thought that, leading the way in becoming carbon neutral, we could get our corporate brothers and sisters to follow. We’re not the biggest company in the world, but we think we can lead by example.

We just did it because it was the right thing to do. But one of the interesting things is that we sort of measured the extra loyalty factor that we think accrues to Shaklee as a result of being a mission-oriented company. Our average tenure of distributor is 11 years. Our average customer has four to five times the retention rate of other companies in our industry. We attribute a lot of that to our values. Therefore, we feel in retrospect that there has actually been a very big economic benefit as a result of doing things for the right reasons.

Q: What do you say to people who contend you can’t be green and be profitable?

I’m hoping that argument is starting to disappear. When we look at our business and the incremental loyalty we attribute to being a mission-driven company, we believe that we have generated an extra $1 billion of sales over the lifetime of our company. I also think a lot of companies are realizing that the analysis of measuring carbon inputs and outputs has resulted in a significant reduction in the costs in the system.

I also believe being sustainable and green is increasingly becoming the ante of being in the business. It is not sufficient to be green; if the product doesn’t work as well, then you’re out of business. And I don’t believe consumers are willing to pay a premium for it. However, I believe that a green product with the same price and performance will always win against a nongreen product. At least in our case, it’s been a huge benefit to our bottom line.

Q: What’s next?

We have a continuous cycle of innovation. Our next general big push from product innovation will try to address the preventable side of where we are on the product health front―rising costs and rising health factors like obesity and diabetes. We’re trying to help people avoid that by being leaner and healthier. The flip side is that there is undernutrition, something which in our society should not exist. Unlike cancer or other kinds of disease where we don’t have the cure, we have the technology to deliver micro- and macronutrients on a very affordable basis at scale.

In the developing world, I think the Shaklee distribution model can solve the “last mile of distribution” problem to move this from a clinic-based model to a Social Marketing™ based model. It provides income and financial incentives for people to go educate others and therefore learn themselves. Scaling up that model is where I hope Shaklee can play a role over the next decade.

We are an organization of entrepreneurial leaders that have come together to create a global business utilizing a revolutionary platform called
Social Marketing™.Each independent leader brings an array of unique talents and abilities to the team. This has enabled us to develop a mentoring system of leadership that allows people the opportunity to build a business of their own, Providing generational income while creating a lifestyle dedicated to
better health and prosperity. The Key difference between us and other work at home Businesses is that with HomeBizCentral.org  we have a system in place to help our team find Leads / Clients. With our HomeBizCentral.org website and GuidetoGreen.Com,  we help our team with leads to Drive the Business.      These are just a couple of the reasons why we say:
“With HomeBizCentral you’ll be in Business for yourself but not by Yourself”
